C25K

This past week, Cousin Tutor Girl and I started a workout plan called Couch 2 5K.  I first read about C25K over at That Wife (my insane girl-crush on Jenna of That Wife is out of control, btw).

The program is 9 weeks, with a commitment of 3 days a week.  It is intended to get you from the couch to running 5 kilometers by the end of program.  (I don’t have a huge urge to actually run a 5K, just adore a strict plan with an end goal – Tutor Girl will probably drag me to run one, though!)

I have finally gotten to a place where I don’t hate my body anymore, and have accepted it for what it is.  At the same time, I sure wouldn’t mind losing a few pounds and getting in better shape, and I hope this will be the start of a beautiful work-out relationship between me, Tutor Girl, and the track/trail/treadmill.

We started Week 1 of C25K on Saturday morning, and I was very nervous to see if I would even be able to complete Day 1.  Day 1 of Week 1 includes a 5-minute walking warm-up, alternating 60 seconds of running and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes, and a 5-minute cool-down walk.  The first half, Tutor Girl and I were walking mostly uphill and the breeze was behind us, and I was struggling – TG even thought I might be cheating with the times, I was having such a hard time!  But once we turned around and for the second half, it was much easier and I am so proud of myself even for this small accomplishment!

I have a terrible habit of starting something (especially working out) and then flaking out a few weeks in.  I’m hoping having a great workout buddy like Tutor Girl will hold me accountable!  It’s also awesome to have some one-on-one time with her to chat since we’re both so busy nowadays, her being super mom to Lil C and me with school and work.

Tutor Girl, get ready to kick some running butt with me – it’s on for the next 9 weeks!

  1. Thanks for linking me to this (you're so sweet!) and GOOD LUCK. I felt a lot of confidence in myself around week 3 and now it's still hard but I can run close to 30 minutes without stopping!

  2. I know you can do it for all nine weeks! And, you can bet that I won't let us quit. As you predicted I will also be dragging us to a 5k at the beginning of June.

  3. AHHH! I've always wanted to do couch to 5k. No joke. I've started it like 5 times and then gotten too busy and let it slide. Now I want to do it again!

  5. Hi! I found you through a comment on another blog where you mentioned you were a nurse. I'm a nurse too...and I have a serious blog addiction so I headed over here. I just started the C25K program on March 22nd. I too need a strict training plan with an obvious goal. I'm actually impressed with myself that I have kept up with it for 4 weeks. How have you been doing? I'm your newest follower and look forward to getting to know you better through your blog. Come over to my blog to see how I am creating a healthy home for my family if you get the chance!

Awesome - great to have more nurse friends!! I am only 2 weeks into C25K, but so far so good. I've actually been doing it more than 3 days this week, because I've really been enjoying the exercise (not something I usually do!).

Thank you for following me, and I'm heading over to your block right now!
