Disneyworld Recap: Travel Day & Day 1

Okay, it's about time I get started on these Disney recaps!  (Or they will end up like my wedding recaps...never getting done.)

You can check out some Instagram photos of our trip HERE to get a quick fix from the entire trip!

Y'all heard all about our sad start to the trip when I told you how we missed our flight.  The rest of the day of travel was pretty much the same - difficult.  Our flights were overbooked, and they were bribing people with travel vouchers to give up their seats on the plane.  I was ready to fight for my seat, but surprisingly enough people fell for the terrible $150 travel voucher bribe and we were safely in our seats and on our way.

We made it to Orlando before 11pm, and were whisked off on a bus filled with excited families ready to start their vacation.  Disney calls this Disney's Magical Express, and they show a cute little video introducing you to Florida and Disneyworld.

We made it to our hotel safely and check-in was pretty painless.  We were all ready to crash for the night, but still appreciated the sweet Disney gestures in our hotel upon arrival.

A not so hidden Mickey on the bed in our hotel room upon arrival.

Day 1: The Magic Kingdom

On our first full day in Disneyworld, it seemed logical we would start out at The Magic Kingdom, being that it is the most comparable to our Disney home-base, Disneyland.

We left the hotel room feeling a little nervous because the weather was horrendous.  It wasn't all that hot (I would later kick myself for jinxing us) and it was pouring.  Sister Singer and I shared an umbrella, and our outside arms and legs were soaked as we walked from the hotel to the bus stop that would get us to the park.

Our first experience with the Disneyworld Resort transportation was fabulous.  Little did we know it would be the best one we had (side note: the transportation wasn't horrific, but there was a lot of waiting for buses, circling our resort's many bus stops before getting on our way, and standing on very crowded buses).  After a quick and easy bus ride to The Magic Kingdom, we were standing outside in the rain to be let into the park.

Some characters did a little song and dance, and we were allowed to walk down Main Street USA.  It is crazy how much it resembled Disneyland.  I haven't been to Disneyland in close to four years, but it felt like I was in Anaheim, just 30 minutes from home walking down Main Street, when really, I was across the country!

We had reservations for a buffet brunch, where we got to spend some quality time eating fabulous food (breakfast pizza and french toast that tastes like churros, are you kidding?), and spending time with characters from Winnie the Pooh!

Character Brunch at The Crystal Palace in The Magic Kingdom.

Ginger bonding?

After brunch, we truly started our day off.  And it's a good thing we had that brunch planned, because wouldn't you know it?  Tinker Bell must have sprinkled some pixie dust, because like magic, the rain clouds and left and it was a clear day by the time we left the restaurant.

We had to get obligatory castle pictures of course, though they are some of my favorites from the entire trip.

After securing Fastpasses (seriously one of the best things Disney has done, except for, you know, the remarkable animation, characters and magical empire they created and all) for Space Mountain, we got on our first ride of the day.

None other than: The Teacups! (I think the official name is Mad Tea Party, but does anyone call it anything but the teacups?)

We spent the rest of the day meeting some characters, walking around The Magic Kingdom, and riding as many rides as we possibly could!

Top Row R-L: Sisters Singer and Swimmer on Tomorrowland Speedway, HH and I on Dumbo, Sisters on Dumbo, and my pretty Sisters with some ugly stepsisters of Cinderlla.
Bottom: My handsome hubs and I on Dumbo.

I'm pretty sure Handsome Hubsters' favorite part of the trip was the photo from our Splash Moutain ride.  Why, you might be wondering?

This is why:

Yes, he was very proud of himself for pulling this look off.
And no, there is not a murderer waiting for me at the end of the drop - I am just incredibly overdramatic.

We didn't stay at the park too late on our first day there, mostly because I think we were too exhausted from the previous day of travel.  We made plans to come back for some late night fun at the parks in the coming days!

Coming up?
Day 2: Spent in The Animal Kingdom, with dinner at Epcot.

What hotel did you stay in on Disney property? I swear, their transportation is great (I stayed at Coronado Springs in August and it had multiple bus stops but not having to drive to the park is so worth it).

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Splash Mountain! Great photo!

And who doesn't love character breakfasts?! Cute photos. Can't wait to read more about your trip. :)

I love love love Disney!

Which hotel were you at? When we went to Disney back in March we had no problems with their transportation system.

We didn't get a chance to ride Splash Mountain. Surprisingly it was chilly the nights we were going to do it so its on my "next time" list :)
