Grateful Sundays

It's been a while since I've done Grateful Sundays, I know - but I couldn't help but talk about what I'm grateful for this Sunday.

This Sunday, on Mother's Day, I am so very grateful for my mothers.

(Before you go thinkin' I've got some big story to tell about being raised by two lady friends, you're wrong - I'm talking about my Mama and my Mother-in-Law.)

Gardening Mom

My Gardening Mom is, without a doubt, the smartest person I know.  Like so smart that she almost sound silly sometimes, like her mouth can't even get all the smartness out without mixing it up a little cause there is so much in her big 'ol brain - you know?  She is also the hardest working woman I've ever met, and has the drive of a semi.  She does not stop until something is done.  Like literally, sometimes she doesn't sleep.  It's creepy.  And also, honorable.  She instilled in me more than just the want to succeed, but the need to.  She also laughs the hardest at my jokes, and for that, I will always be grateful.

Mother-in-Law Red

Mother-in-Law Red is very very caring.  She is sweet and free with her emotions.  If she feels like hugging you, she hugs you; if she wants you to know she loves you, she tells you.  It's a wonderful feeling to be told you're loved, and MIL Red does that everytime I speak to her.  She is fun and the life of the party, and I can tell her anything without being ashamed.  She doesn't judge which is a characteristic hard to find in people.  She opened her arms to me when a lot of mothers would have wondered what the hell their sons were doing moving in with someone after months of dating.  She has always been supportive of our relationship, and for that, I will always be grateful.

Grateful Sundays

This week, I am so so so undeniably, over-the-top and unapologetically grateful for

my Handsome Husband on our first wedding anniversary.

Dear HH,

Thank you for the most exciting year of my life,
and for making me feel loved every single minute of every single day.
Thank you for laughing with me, holding me when I need to cry, and telling me when I need to suck it up.
You are my best friend in the entire world, and I cannot imagine a day without you in my world.
I love you, and cannot wait to celebrate the next 50 wedding anniversaries.

Love,
Stress Casey

Grateful Sundays

This week, I am grateful for Valentine's Day.  Some people think it's a dumb holiday, some people are bitter think it's cheesy, but me?  I think it's beautiful to make one day of the year all about love (and chocolate and flowers).

What did your Valentine's Day look like?

Grateful Sundays

This week, I'm grateful for Girls' Weekend 2012 in Arizona!

Love the chance to get away with these lovely ladies:

(Top Row, from L-R: Swagger, Twin Beauty School, Moi (I'm a lovely lady, too!), and Ms. Smiles,

*Unfortunately, Cute Apartment had a last minute emergency that prevented her from coming with us this weekend, however she is so dang cute in that picture I had to leave her smiling face.  She was there in spirit!

Grateful Sundays

I'm grateful for busy weeks!

This week, Handsome Hubster and I have had plans nearly every.  single.  night.  And while some might call that overwhelming - I love it!  I love to be busy, and have a lot going on.  It makes the weeks go by faster and the weekends even more enjoyable!

How was your week?

What else did I write about this week?

Grateful Sundays

This week, I am grateful for a small but mighty little group of friends that (kind of embarassingly) refers to themselves as The Taco Tuesday Club.

We had our first annual TTC (short for the Taco Tuesday Club, of course) Secret Santa Gift Exchange last night, and it just reminded me how much I adore these people!  I have known the great majority of them for years but only recently have we formed this little clan of people who can bond over tacos, margaritas, beer, and laughs.

From L-R: Twin Beauty School, Kindergarten Teacher, Twin Unicorn holding her presents sitting with  Ms. Smiles and Drummer Boy, and Cute Apartment

Clockwise from upper L: Kindergarten Teacher and my Handsome Husband get ready to play Just Dance!, Twin Beauty School very focused on the football game while Kindergarten Teacher and The Bouncer chat, my tasty vodka cranberry cocktail, HH chatting with Cute Apartment while Twin Beauty School tries to ignore them

Grateful Sundays

This week, I am grateful for a new year.

2011 brought us so many exciting things - we got married, went on a fabulous honeymoon, I got my first nursing job and then my first big girl full time nursing job, Handsome Hubster started his journey of beginning law school.

It's been a big year!

What does 2012 have in store for us?
Guess we'll have to wait and see!

Grateful Sundays

This week, I am grateful for two little twinners I know and love:

Twin Beauty School & Twin Unicorn!

Today is their very special birthday, and I am so grateful to have them both in my life!  I have known then for a long time, and they are both two of the sweetest, funniest, most down-to-earth girls I've ever met.

Twin Beauty School

Twin Beauty School is hysterical, kind, and wiser than her years.  She is...wait for it...in beauty school and girlfriend knows when she's done she's gonna be my go-to stylist fo lyfe!

Twin Unicorn

Twin Unicorn is goofy, up for anything, and appreciates line dancing as much as I do!  She lived in Northern California for a few years, and I am so happy she's back in So Cal nowadays!  Also, she sold HH (and gave him a pretty sweet discount from what I hear) my engagement ring during her diamond-sellin' days!

Grateful Sundays

This week, I am grateful for local family.

Really, I am grateful for all family, but something about having the luxury of spending Thanksgiving day with so many family members that just makes you grateful for the fact that so many live close by.

I never had the luxury of spending every holiday, birthday, and random Sunday barbeque with my cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents growing up.  Gardening Mom's family was (and is) all on the East Coast, and my closest cousins growing up lived a five-hour drive away.  We spend some holidays together, but it wasn't the same as Handsome Husband's family.  It wasn't like cousins growing up together so close you could think they are siblings.

I love that we all live so close that I can see Gardening Mom, Hat Dad and my Sisters, and still manage to see so many members of Handsome Husbands family all in the same day.

I think often times people take that for granted - the emotional closeness that comes from geographical closeness.  There may be downsides...family drama, a packed social calendar, a never-ending list of family members that must be invited to things.  But there is definitely an upside too, and for that, I am grateful.

Grateful Sundays

This week, I'm grateful for our jobs.

As the holidays approach, the people without jobs, homes, or much or anything start becoming more prevalent, and more heartbreaking.  For me, not only does it make me feel for these people, but it inspires me to be grateful for what my husband and I have that we so often take for granted.

We both have great jobs, that we actually enjoy doing!  Not everyone can say that, and it is something to thank God for, and give ourselves a pat on the back for too.  It's not easy to get a job in the world we live in today, and I am proud of us for landing the ones we have.

What do we do, you ask?

Well.

Handsome Husband works in Lease Administration for a company to owns and operates shopping centers.  He does a lot of tenant relations, as well as abstracting, or "summarizing" the leases.  His job rocks because they have events at shopping centers (what kind of wife wouldn't like that?).

I am a pediatric LVN working for a big organization in my area that has multiple hospitals and clinics.  I am the Clinic Supervisor at my clinic, and while I don't get to do too many nursing procedures, I get the help my patients and their families get the care they need.  I also am loving all the fun little things I can do to my little clinic!

While we may complain sometimes, I am reminded to be grateful for what we have, especially when so many others would switch with us in a heartbeat.

This week, I am grateful for those who serve and have served our country.

Grateful Sundays

This week, I am grateful for a sweet lil gift from Tutor Girl and family.

Y'all know how last weekend I (okay, Handsome Hubs was there too) watched my main man, Lil C while his 'rents (Tutor Girl and her husband) went on a short weekend trip just the two of them.

It was an eye-opening weekend, and last week, I was grateful for a little gift from medicine called The Pill.

Today, Tutor Girl was so sweet and gave me the nicest little thank you gift for helping a sister out last weekend and watching her little guy.

Because I love to send mail (and also appreciate a good note of gratitude), I would usually send a Thank You note for something like this, but sort of had to draw the line at sending a Thank You note for a Thank You gift.  So instead, I'm sharing my gratitude with the entire blogosphere!  (That may be more impressive than a note?)

I won't share exactly what she got me because I'm just not that kind of Braggy Betty, but let's just say it was a cute little gift bag, filled with something with this fabulous logo on it:

Needles to say that was such a sweet surprise, and TG totally didn't have to that (but this girl whose purse is from Target ain't giving it back now!).

Thank you so much Tutor Girly!

Grateful Sundays

This week, (after spending the past 48+ hours with a 15-month-old), I am grateful for

these wonderful gifts from the world of medicine.

Grateful Sundays

This week, I am grateful for marriage.

Last night, we watched as our dear friend Fashionista's parents were surrounded by some of their closest friends and family celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary.

"Grief can take care of itself, but to get the full value of joy, you must have somebody to divide it with." - Mark Twain

Hearing the speeches, and watching the outpouring of love for this couple made me so grateful for the institution and cultural interpretation (too many sociology classes) of marriage.

"We don't love qualities, we love persons; sometimes by reason of their defects as well as of their qualities." - Jacques Maritain

I am so grateful that I have a partner (especially one as amazing as Handsome Husband!) to go through life with - someone to hold my hand when things are scary, to talk it through with when things are confusing, and to pop bottles when things are good!

"Sexiness wears thin after a while and beauty fades, but to be married to a man who makes you laugh everyday, ah, now that's a real treat." - Joanne Woodward

Grateful Sundays

This week (and always), I am grateful for the men and women who lost their lives on September 11, 2011.

I'm grateful for the firefighters, police, and city officials who didn't even hesitate to do their jobs.

I'm grateful for the American heroes on Flight 93, who chose not to go down without a fight, and probably saved hundreds of lives by doing so.

And for every single other life lost on that fateful day that change our nation forever.

"On that terrible day, a nation became a neighborhood, all Americans became New Yorkers" - Governor George Pataki

Guest Blogger: Grateful Sunday

OMG Amy...my favorite embarrassing moment had to be your accident thigh grab during class!  Thank you for being brave enough to share those embarrassing (albeit hilarious) moments with us!

Today, Meghan from They Call Her Meghan is here sharing what she is grateful for this week (and always).

---------------------------------------------------------------

Hey y'all!
I'm Meghan from over at They Call Her Meghan

I'm 19, a country girl at heart, court reporting student who loves life and the people in it. Come check me out if you're interested! I am uber excited that Casey asked me to guest post while she is away at her cousin's wedding! I knew right away I wanted to do Grateful Sunday, because I have so much that I am grateful for, it took me awhile to figure out what I wanted to talk about, but I decided on my stepmom

That would be my stepmom Lynn, me and my dad.
I am grateful that she is and has always been one of my best friends and has always been easy to talk to. I personally think that everybody should have that one person that always is there for them. I'm grateful Lynn is that for me.
I'm grateful for the fact that her parents have always considered me one of the grandkids, and that I have such a great relationship with them.

Not the best picture, but here is my grandparents with some of us grandkids :D
I'm grateful for the fact that she didn't force our relationship. My stepmom is honestly one of my best friends, and I'm so blessed to be able to say that!
I'm grateful that she taught me to love Jesus with all of my heart and to always go to Him when I need advice.

I'm grateful for the fact I can tell my stepmom anything and know she has my back no matter what. I'm grateful knowing that she will stand up for me through thick and thin. I'm grateful that she gave birth to two of the most awesome kids around, my sister Mady who is another one of my best friends, and my little brother Ryan who drives me up the wall, but I still love him anyways!

So who or what are you grateful for?
Do you have that one person you can go to for anything and everything?
Who is it?

Thanks again to Casey for letting me guest post! It's been a blast!

Grateful Sundays

This week, I am grateful for my laundry-lovin' Handsome Husband.

I am obviously grateful for HH every week, but this week I want to take a moment and give him some major credit where major credit is due.

While I don't quite believe that he loves doing laundry, he certainly does it a lot.

I loathe doing laundry, and this is such a sexy trait for my man to have.  He does all of our laundry (every once in a while I step up and do a load, but it's few and far between), including washing, drying, and folding and putting away the clothes (the absolute worst part, no?).

Thank you HH, for always making sure I have clean clothes and don't have to wear the same dirty nasty ones over and over again (or have to do my own laundry, which is out of the question, obvi) and for rarely never complaining about it!  You're the best, babe!

Mandatory cute photo of my man.

Grateful Sundays

This week, I am grateful for breakfast food.

A slightly trivial thing to be grateful so, but regardless, how can you not love it?  I don't usually eat breakfast (naughty naughty I know), but this weekend, I've had lovely breakfast food twice!  Lucky me!

My all-time, old school favorite - french toast

These hash browns look to die for!

Scrambled eggs, a good stand-by.

LOVE fruit.

The one breakfast food I haven't had this weekend - maybe I will go and change that right about now!
