Things Thursday: Things Not to Say to People Trying to Buy a Home

1. "What's taking so long?" I honestly couldn't tell you, you'd think snails are running the banks at the pace they move.

2. "Isn't it funny how they call it a short sale, but it takes so long?" Freaking hysterical.

3. "You're so lucky - it's such a great time to buy!" Totally!  Prices are going up, and inventory is at an all-time low - it's like we hit the jackpot!

4. "You'll hear any day now." Right, that's what I thought two months ago.

5. "You've waited this long - what's a few more days/weeks/months?" You're right, why not just push this whole thing into 2013 and then call it a day?

6. "But it's so exciting!" No, it was exciting before I caught the Home Buying Blues, became jaded, and stopped trusting any and all people associated with Real Estate.

7. "You're so young to be buying a home - you should be proud of yourselves." I will be, once we actually do it.  For now, we're just young to be looking at homes, and old to be living with my parents.

8. "How can you guys even afford to buy a house?" Well, we practiced this little thing called sacrifice over the past year and a half - we sacrificed going fun places, doing fun things, money, and privacy all to better our future.

9. "So, what's new with the condo?" Nothing.  I promise, when we have news, we will shout it from the rooftops.

10. "Everything happens for a reason - you'll end up in the right place for you." This?  I cannot argue with.  We will end up in the right place for us.

Disclaimer: All of these are meant in good fun.  We appreciate anyone invested enough in our life to even care about what's going on with our homebuying process!

I have to agree #8 would drive be bonkers. My response would be "Yeah, I know Im young but I also worked my ass off in school to get a decent job.So that's how I can afford it. oh and that little thing called a savings."

I have an offer in on a short sale right now and it's so dang frustrating. my fiance wasn't working steadily when the market was REALLY good for buyers, and now it's all turning around and I feel like if things don't work out with the house we have our offer in on, it may be too late for us to find something good in our price range.
