The Great So Cal Blackout of 2011

This may or may not be the official name, but that is what I am calling the horrendousness that was last night:

I believe there were parts of Arizona and Mexico that were effected as well, but in truly Southern Californian fashion, I'm choosing to only acknowledge our inconveince.

So, where all my So Cal bloggers at?  How hellish was that?  In case you didn't know, we've had an insane heat wave the past few days - I'm pretty sure we've been breaking local records with our 100+ temps in freaking September.  (I am so jealous of you cutie bloggers with your boots, and fall decor, and all-around autum.)  So no power = no air conditioning, no fans, no refuge from the heat

Lucky us, we got home from vacation (how fabulous were my guest bloggers, by the way?  love them!) just in time to participate in the candle-lighting marathon that was the evening of September 8, 2011.

We played a little (seriously little, we got bored after 5 minutes) Monopoly, and a little more than 5 minutes of Scategories.  I studied by candlelight (I'm devoted to my education, what can I say?), while my Handsome Husband pretended to study, but really just focused his efforts on distracting me.  We drove around the creepy dark streets to look at the gas stations filling up (HH said it looked like Y2K), and searced desperately for ice cream (priorities), but in the end only found a 7-11 open and I had to settle for Swedish Fish and Hershey's Drops.

When HH and I had finally succumbed to boredom, and were about the fall asleep, wouldn't you know it the house powered right back up and we were officially un-blacked out (7 hours later).  So of course, instead of still going to bed and getting some quality sleep, we stayed up watching Mad Men on Netflix because we are obsessed.

I feel a little silly complaining about being without power for 7 hours when there were so many of you without power for days after Hurricane Irene, but really, I just completely commisterate with you!  I was going crazy after about hour 3, I don't know how y'all did it for days (weeks for some?)!

Going along with that sentiment, I hate to get all creepy-scary, but what is going on with the world right now?

Hurricane Irene

The Fires in Texas

The Blackout (seems trivial compared to the other two, but still)

I don't want to know what's next.

Vacation recap coming this weekend!

I was lucky enough to not get hit by the black out. I don't live too far from you guys, but I guess I was just past the line of no electricity...thank goodness. I'm like you, I go crazy without electricity. You never realize how many things you do/use in a day that needs power, until you don't have it anymore.

Well, I hope you had a wonderful vacation and thank you again for letting guest post on your blog last week! :)

Oh, and they say things happen in 3's, so hopefully nothing else happens for awhile!

I just heard about the blackout tonight...so crazy! And not to add to the list of creepiness, but there is a TON of flooding in the Hershey, PA area--like enough to flood a house completely to floor of the second story, and getting higher. Looks like images from Hurricane Katrina years ago...so bad :( Glad you're ok though!

Okay, yes, hurricanes, floods and fires, they're a lot worse than going without power for 7 hours, but I live in AZ, and let me tell you, I was SO happy we didn't lose our power, too!!!

Looking forward to reading about your vacation! :)
