Stress Case and School: A Love-Hate Relationship

I have always been a little weird about school – like since Kindergarten.  I really like it – I like learning, and I like homework, and I love school supplies (it’s the little things).  But I tend to really enjoy myself for a bit, then get a bit complacent, and then spend the last few weeks of the year or semester making up for my complacency.

Now that I’ve been in school without a break (other than summers) for almost 18 years, I have developed a real love-hate relationship with it.

I love
  • the way I feel when I ace a test.
  • reading – especially when I find the material interesting.
  • highlighters.
  • feeling like I am actually learning.
  • homework, especially when done in pencil.
  • re-typing my notes, until everything is review and nothing I’m learning is new.

I hate
  • professors who make classes more difficult than they need to be.
  • the way I feel when I do poorly on a test.
  • assignments that feel more like busy work than valuable learning experiences.
  • concepts that no matter how hard I try, I just cannot grasp.
  • professors who take attendance (if I can pass the class without coming, why fault me?)
  • people who talk non-stop in class (just GO HOME).

So, school – I think we’ve got a few more years together in our future, lets try and work this thing out.

Thanks, Julie! It's nice to have someone who can relate! Most of my friends are done with school for good, so I'm one of the only ones still trekkin'!
